Date: Wednesday, June 13, 2001 01:09 AM Late last year I got a new Compaq thinking it would be a decent copmuter, but I quickly found out that the micromodem can't connect with my University's server without the inclusion of a string that tells the severs to accept my hook up, but only at 28.8--not what they advertize as the speed of the modem.

After talking with the service dept at Compaq (all the strings they gave me were useless--only the one given me by the University worked) I was left with the basic answer from them that I was just out of luck. Since then there have been other little annoyances that have made me determined to never recommend a Compaq to any one. Now I have been asked by my parents to help them buy a computer for Father's Day--I can guarantee that it will NOT be Compaq. Any companty that tells a new customer that he's shit out of luck with a product that does not deliver what it promises doesn't deserve any business.
