Have you ever read the backside of a Walmart vest that reads, "May I help you?" Well, maybe it should read,"The customer doesn't matter to me!" Friday June 27, 2003 was the decision maker. I recently purchased a king size bed, and I was in need of a mattress pad and pillows. Naturally, Walmart's sales floor did not have enough of the pillows I selected. I searched through the department, and even other departments, trying to locate an associate who could assist me. After looking for some time, I entered the layaway department asking for assistance. The associate announced for a particular individual in domestics.
I waited about 15 minutes for this individual, while at the same time, I was being passed by several associates who were "unable" to help me. Meanwhile, another associate was processing her own individual purchase and "shooting the breeze" with the layaway associate.
After calling attention to the fact that no one had come to help me, the two associates engaged in socializing, told me that they were not sure where this particular associate was. Instead of assigning someone else to help me, or even stepping into the stock room to see if another pillow was tucked away, they continued "conducting their business." I would like the Walmart Corporation to know, the Chesapeake, Virginia store lost over $100.00 in sales last Friday, and more importantly, a customer for life! After many times having encountered situations like this at Walmart in Hampton and Chesapeake, Virginia, I have decided to give my business to stores that represent what true customer service means, for example: J.C. Penny and Target. D. Kiemer
