Complaints.com received the following consumer message on July 2, 2002:

I recieved a call on July 1, 2002 from Gateway telling me that I have been in collections for the last 6 months.

I have made every payment except for May 2002 and June 2002.

They are aware that I recieve SSI and that I am disabled, so they worked with me to change my due date, however they still charge me the 29.00 late fee for not paying by the third and then another 31 and some change in intrest charges for being in collections. This is a Gateway account with an intrest rate of 28% it was 9% when I applied. I purchased a lap top because I am in bed and home bound and cannot sit at my regular computer. I have tried calling them, I asked how can I be in collections for the last 6 months when I have paid every month, the amount due of 57.00 which is due on the 13th, but every month I have to pay that plus 29.00, I have complained about this almost every month, so I have been paying my regular monthly note. I don't know what else to do. I am being ripped off anf taken advantage of. How could such a reputable company treat a disabled Veteran in this manner, or any disabled person for that matter? I guess I will have to get an attorney, but who can afford one. Thank You,
