John Deere 285 Lawn and Garden tractor - blown engine in less than 350 hours - no reply to correspondence
Complaints.com received the following consumer message on July 27, 2002:

RE: John Deere 285 Lawn and Garden tractor - blown engine in less than 350 hours - no reply to correspondence The John Deere 285 Lawn and Garden tractor with the overhead valves,liquid cooled Kawasaki Engine is nothing but a piece of junk and a LEMON. I purchased one new and in less than 350 hours it had a blown engine. This was on top of numerous problems previously.
The authorized repair shop had it in more than I had it. This on top of all the expense. The John Deere Company refused to reply to my correspodence. They did not have enough pride to admit that there was a problem with this model tractor and should have re-called it.
Needless to say that I won't ever purchase another and have been advising everybody that I can to do the same.

From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Monday, 29-Jul-02 00:00:00 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On Thisi have a g100 that motor was warranted after about 75hrs, it has 310 now and blow white smoke and has started using oil. i also have a very old craftsman that has mowed thousands of acres and just won't quit. both mowers have kohler motors, the only differance is i paid $500 dollars for one and $4000 for the other, expecting to get many, many years of service from it but i feel its days are numbered. i always beleived in john deere products and think you should do something to make this right!
