John Deere 285 Lawn and Garden tractor - blown engine in less than 350 hours - no reply to correspondence

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on July 27, 2002:

The John Deere 285 Lawn and Garden tractor with the overhead valves,liquid cooled Kawasaki Engine is nothing but a piece of junk and a LEMON. I purchased one new and in less than 350 hours it had a blown engine. This was on top of numerous problems previously.

The authorized repair shop had it in more than I had it. This on top of all the expense. The John Deere Company refused to reply to my correspodence. They did not have enough pride to admit that there was a problem with this model tractor and should have re-called it.

Needless to say that I won't ever purchase another and have been advising everybody that I can to do the same.
