RE: Northstar engine with 67,000 miles - Fuel rod deterioration
This e mail serves as a correction to prior e mail sent this date. I had a starter replaced on my Northstar engine by Caddy Corner 300 w. 162 St. South Holland IL tel# 1708 596-0085 on 7/18/02.
The engine #12529511 has 67,000 miles on it and was installed by Emil Denemark Cadillac 4646 S. Pulaski Rd Chicago on 12/2/97.
The vin# of my vehicle is 1g6el129pu6109700. I picked up the vehicle from Caddy Corner and barely made it home. I attempted to take it back to Caddy Corner and had difficulty starting it. I then noticed a smell of a rich fuel mixture and rough ideling.
Then a loud pop and part of the intake manifold blew away. After having my car towed to the facility I was told that my fuel rod was bad causing a detonation in the manifold area.
Does this sound plausible? Is this a common occurance on this type of engine? My car was running fine before the starter was replaced.
