RE: Geico auto insurance - got cancelled after submitted first claim - speeding tickets given as reason for non-renewal

my insurance got canceled after i submitted my first-ever claim. they told me on the phone when i signed up that "nobody worries much about speeding tickets for speeding within 10-15 mph over the limit." yet, they listed my 38 mphin a 25 zone, and my 56 mph in a 45 zone as "reasons for this non-renewal."

DAYS after the citation, the speed limit in the 45 zone was increased to 55. and the 36 was within FEET of where the 25 limit changes to 35. another reason given was "left center highway." it was no highway.

it was a dead-end driveway into the parking lot where i work. the accident happened in a residential driveway at 1 mph. i've paid liability insurance ever since it was required by law. now after this one claim for $800, they tell me they can insure me for an additional $1,000 per year.

it would have been much cheaper to pay for my friend's car repair, and NOT put in a claim.

is this fair?

do i have any recourse?
