RE: Maytag Neptune frontloader washer - causes orders - difficult to clean lint catcher - mold buildup

I strongly suggest that if you are looking for a washer to buy that you absolutely don't purchase a MAYTAG NEPTNE FRONTLOADER. We splurged on this top of the line model as a kind of anniversary present to ourselves. It has been terrible. It gives off very smelly odors that get into your clothes. You have to constantly try to clean out the "lint catcher".

This is difficult to do as the lint catcher does not come out of the machine. You have to take a lint brush or toothbrush or comb and try to clean it out with bleach to get rid of the odor. This lint is suppose to "disappear and reslove itself", but it does not. There is also another design flaw. For some strange reason they have left a pocket in the front of the machine which collects water. It never empties.

This has to be emptied all the time or else it sits in your machine and causes a huge mold build up. In order to empty it, you have to sop up the water with a cloth -( guess what now you have a dirty cloth again - more wash to be done) On top of all these problems we now have to have it serviced again - less then a year ago we had to have both motor components completely replaced.

Now it looks like we're having the same problem again. You know that priority service they claim to have - guess what -you have to live in the right area - it's just your tough luck you're out of there range of service.Wait until you try to call and talk to someone. You get switched form person to person, are told to call at a certain time and then that person went home 15 minutes before you called.

Good luck. I wasted two whole afternoons getting nowhere and not getting any help. They don't care. They will not pay for your service calls, they don't care that you have to wait weeks to get it serviced. They don't care that you have to take you clothes to a laundry mat and pay a fortune to get it washed even tthough you paid them a fortune for their top of the line machine.

Whatever you do, in my opinion, don't buy this machine. Warn your families and friends.

Thank you for posting your complaint about the Maytag Neptune front loader washer. We,too, were having lint problems and didn't understand the problem or the solution until I saw your posting. Then, my husband and I spent an hour with tweezers, needle nose pliers, a toothbrush, and warm water, extracting the lint from the clogged portals and from the lint brushes "collar". Needless to say, this has not endeared us to Maytag. Oh, and FYI, we also have the design defect that allows water to collect in the front of the washer, i.e., the "pocket", but happily, no mold.
