RE: Compaq Presario 5000 - systemboard replaced several times - ongoing trouble with computer I have a major complaint about the Compaq Computer Company. On November 27, 2001 my mother bought a Compaq Presario 5000. For a while it was a very good machine. Sometime after the first of the year she started having problems with it hanging up.
Keyboard freezing, computer just stop running and the like. After repeated calls to Compaq and doing things they told us to do, they came out and replaced the motherboard. They did not check to see if the system was still working.
The man just replaced the motherboard and left. Needless to say, it continued to have problems. We called Compaq again and they told us to take it to CompUSA for service. We took it in on April 28,2002. CompUSA replaced the motherboard and keyboard.
We picked it up on May 13,2002 expecting it to work. It did for a little while then the keyboard froze again. After calling Compaq AGAIN, they sent out a new keyboard. My husband is a computer technician and a computer instructor. When he tried to install the keyboard he got a message that said "Cannot install. Cannot create a file when that file already exists."
That was on June 13, 2002. At that point he once AGAIN called Compaq and was told a "Case Agent" was being assigned to the case. The Case Agent was supposed to get in touch with my mother with in the next 5 to 10 working days. We have heard NOTHING from them. Currently we are AGAIN awaiting the call from the Case Agent.
I called, on behalf of my mother, Office Depot where the computer was purchased. The manager there took my name and my mother's name and called Compaq. They said the file had been closed but reopened it. The keyboard she is currently using is borrowed and it periodically freezes. I read about this website in Woman's World magazine for the week of July 16,2002. I hope you can be of some help to us. My name is Rachel S Kohr My mother is Scott H Lee ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
