telenet's and capitalnet's so-called service

Date: Monday, July 09, 2001 08:35 PM After my troubles with AOL i decided to switch to a another isp that was closer to home(no longdistance charges)and have some freedoms that AOL did not provide. the only one avalible was a firm called telenet.net. little did i know that the desision would give grief to no end. signing up was shall we say a chore(it took three attempts to get someone on the phone who knew what they were doing) and in the process i gained the knowlege to setting up my modem(i was forced to plod through getting it to connect to the server).

the first few weeks after that, i noticed the connection speed steadily deteriorate down to 900 bps. i called their help line to get a least an explaination on the problem only to have someone one the other end who gave me the impression that he had no business being there. No, i did not get the answer i was looking for and only after discussing this with somsone who was more knowlegeable in computers than i was did the problem get fixed(i was given the wrong number and a wrong init string which messed up my modem). When Telenet was bought by Logical net corp.last year that is when thing went down hill fast. To start, my user name and password was lost from their files and only threating to cancel the service did they find it. they said the files were in the process of being stored on a new network(to this day this so called network still is not running right because my name and password was "misplaced" three times the most recent was last month).Take their tech support(would you, please) for example, on four occasions i needed some assistance with problem getting on their server and not once did i get a straight answer.

The impression i got was that the staff was obtained from a minimun wage body brokering service from their total lack of knowlege and their its not my problem attitude. the thing that bugged me the most was that they try to blame the phone company for the problems they are having with the local server i need to get on the net; the real problem was the software was woefully outdated and contaminated from a admin who did not keep up with maintaing the equipment. It has been one problem after another followed by one excuse after another with these people and as a paying customer i would like to know if and when they are going to get their act together, and i am not alone in this since the whole town i live is forced to use this third rate isp since there is no other available. going back to AOL is not an option because of the long disitance charges and right now satellite access is too expensive(800 dollars for the hardware and 80 dollars a month for the service).

Living in upstate new york, access to communications be it over the phone, televison,or the internet should not be that the user is at mercy of a service provider who gives bad service becuase they are the only one available and they have no real incentive to keep their system running in top condition. These problems with Telenet and their parent company Logical net corp. are systemic. they do not understand that when someone pays for them to provide a serivce they are expected to deliver it; not sit back watching the money roll in and do nothing to provide their customers with the best service that they can provde. And this is from a company that claims itself to be the best in the northeast. I am only putting up with this sloth and incompentence until something better comes along and most of the town i live in is doing the same.
