RE: FCNB (First Consumer National Bank, Portland, OR) credit card - not responsive to stolen mail and fraud situation
Our mail was stolen out of our mail box a year ago. Along with the mail, bills that were to be paid out, a box of checks were stolen. As soon as we discovered what happened, we called all of our accounts including credit cards, explained what happened, and right away mailed new payments. We also send copies of letters from the United States Post Office, from our bank.
All companies were professional, credited late fees and overlimit fees because of the theft. Everyone EXCEPT First Consumer National Bank out of Portland, Oregon. We called on the phone, were told that once we paid the fees, they would be credited back to us.
What they never told us that when we sent in what we were told to, then finance charges were assessed again and we were assessed more overlimit fees. They did this on both my husband and my account.
On one account alone, we paid $268 in overlimit fees. We were being assessed $35.00 overlimit fees on a 2.62 over the credit limit and this was all due to one payment being late because of theft. We never had a history of late payments before this happened. I am going to close these accounts. They have been the most unprofessional company I have ever encountered. I have also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
