After talking to several sales people about the problem I was having I was told that it was due to a manufacturing defect. My machine keeps displaying "disk read error".

This didn't happen until we purchased the DVD kit and memory card and DVD based games. I was told they had seen that a lot with the early machines, they also said they knew Sony would fix it for the cost of shipping.

All I had to do was call Sony at 1-800-345-SONY. I tried on numerous occasions to do so but all I ever get is automated hell. When it prompts "if you would like to talk to a representative please push zero" it has another message..." due to the volume of calls we are not able to answer your call, please try again later".

To me that is a sorry excuse for customer service. Email User
