Thrifty Rent-A-Car, Los Angeles - excessive charges

Complaints.com received the following e-message on January 17, 2002:

Thrifty Rent-A-Car, Los Angeles - excessive charges I reserved a compact car @ 19.99 /day for four days (Jan 10-13) from Thrifty in Los Angeles. On arrival I was told that I could only get a Chevy Metro at that price but could get the compact upgrade for $6/day extra. I agreed to this but waived all other coverages. On returning the car I was charged $218.18 total, well more than double the advertised price, unexpected upgrade included (that would have been $80 + tax). I was charged 49.60 and 33.96 respectivelyfor PDW and SLI although I had declined both and indocated same with an "x" om the printed estimate.

Additionally, I was charged 16.98 for gas at .93 a gallon although the I returned the Kia sedan with more than a half tank and could not have taken more than $8. Thrifty took me every way it could from beginning to end of the transaction. After complaining to the manager of the L.A. Airport Thrifty, I was given a $50 reduction in the $218 total. Dissatisfied, and intending to file

complaint with BOA Visa, I declined to sign the receipt. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
