Progressive Insurance Company - Commercial Vehicle Automobile Insurance
I obtained a Commercial Vehicle insurance policy on 11/15/01 with Progressive Insurance Company. After checking competitors rates, I obtained a new policy and cancelled the one with Progressive Insurance on 12/18/01.
Note: the policy was in effect for 28 days. On 1/07/02, I received a check from Progressive Insurance for reimbursement of the unused portion of the policy. However, they subtracted $157.00 from the amount of the refund.
Under the belief that a mistake was made, I immediately contacted Progressive Insurance over the telephone. After speeking with five representatives, the only answer that was given to me was that Progressive was entitled to take 10% of the entire amount of the policy, in accordance with the insurance statutes instituted by the State of Illinois.
Therefore, the insurance on my truck for this twenty-eight day period went from the initial quote of $133.00 to $302.00.
As I stated, I gave numerous company representatives ample opportunuty to correct this. Although I new that I was actually entitled to more, I requested settling this issue for the sum of $150.00. Basically, every representative I spoke to said that the insurance laws of the State of Illinois gave them the power to rip-off consumers and that's exactly what they intended to do.
Being layed-off and searching for a hobby, I feel it to be my duty as a consumer to inform as many people as possible that, given the opportunity, Progressive Insurance will steal their money simply because they can, legally.
Due to the arrogance and pompous attitudes of the people representing Progressive Insurance, I am no longer seeking the money I requested. Firstly, it would be a losing battle, as they, apparently did nothing illegal. Immoral and unnethical, perhaps...but not illegal.
Secondly, I'm having more fun making sure they pay in other ways. For example, I've already found seven other commercial vehicle owners who carried a policy with Progressive Insurance... until they heard what happened to me.
They switched immediately following my final telephone conversation with a Progressive representative. Additionally, my step-daughter heard my story and is now in the process of disposing of her association with Progressive Insurance. It seems nobody wants to take the chance of being ripped-off.
I tried to explain to some of the companies representatives that by not paying me my entire refund, as they should have in the first place, Progressive would end up losing much more than $150.00. Since hey were only concerned with stealing money from me, I will make certain that happens.
I am, already, responsible for reducing the size of their piece of the insurance pie, so to speak, and will continue in my efforts to inform as many people as possible, in every forum possible, that Progressive Insurance WILL RIP THEM OFF!
