Comcast AT home Renegs on Advertised $ 100.00 rebate promotion
In Dec, 2001 Comcast AT HOME internet advertized a $100.00 rebate if you sign up. On Dec 15, 2001 I signed up. I also informed them at the time that I owned my own cable moden and did not need to rent one. At the time their carrier service "Excite" went into bankruptcy.
They told me they could not activate my account until Jan, 4, 2002. On Jan 4, 2001 I called to activate my account and asked how to get my rebate. They directed me to a website with the information. Upon reading it, it states that I have to rent or buy the modem from them.
On Jan, 10, 2002 I called customer support and they said that that is right. they did not let me know this when I signed up in December. They also told me that because I activated after Dec.31, 2001 that I was no longer qualified for the rebate. I told them that it was their companyu (Comcast) that would no let me sign up until Jan 4. They said there is nothing they can do.
I filed a complaint (#9234080) and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was on hold for over 2 hrs before I hung up and tried again. When forwarded again to a manager, I was on hold for another 2 hrs without an answer. The supervisors do not answer at all.
This is clearly false advertising and no honoring their advertized promotions. I know that I am not the only one who signed up at that time and other people must be going through the same thing. This need to be publicized so that the public knows what is going on.
