askcs.com global intermedia - unable to cancel trial subscription - charged $ 39.99 for full subscription

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on February 25, 2003:

another horror story regarding the deceptive askcs.com or global-intermedia.. I signed up for a trial 48 hour membership on one of askcs.com's many internet sites for $2.99, and was issued a subscription number. When I attempted to cancel the subscription on their website before my 48 hours were up their system wouldn't recognize my number.

I wrote them an email explaining the situation and telling them to cancel my subscription. They promptly ignored it, and a day later proceeded to charge me $39.99 for a full subscription. I wrote them another email demanding that they refund my money and cancel the subscription but they ignored what I said and parroted

some nonsense to me saying it was 'the customers responsibility to cancel the subscription'.
