RE: NextCard Visa - seeking refund of account overpayment
After seeing the frightening business practices of NextCard posted on this site, I hold out little hope that they will refund my overpayment, but I want to add my voice to the growing number of the *already stung* so that others will avoid this company like the plague that they apparently are. I went through a very difficult time financially last year and was late with some payments. NextCard called me at work the day after the due date each time I was late. I always paid them substantially more than the minimum, ALWAYS, but the way my paychecks fell, and the hard time I was having resulted in some late payments. Twice I was unable to pay them in the month due, but more than made up for it one month and the other time, I paid the balance of over $900 off completely.
Even with all the problems I was having, that they were well aware of, they were always paid. This did not stop them from closing my account last July. My June statement said my balance was $929. On July 4, I was charged a $39.00 Rewards Member Fee. On July 6, they posted my payment of $929. On August 5, I was charged a $35 overlimit fee.
The only charge made the the prior month was the $39 fee. I still have not figured out how I arrived at the balance they state as being $1073, which was $73 overlimit. Sometime during July my account was closed after being charged a yearly fee, an overlimit fee was applied a month after that, the account was paid off completely in October, but was paid off by my parents, who overpaid the account by $85. I still to this day get a statement every month showing that I have a credit balance of $85, but the account is closed and the total available credit is NONE.
They have made no attempt to contact me about this, or to refund the overpayment. Recently I found out that not only can they not call me at work, but that they also cannot charge me a yearly fee and then close my account. They can do one or the other, but not both. I feel they owe me $124, or $85 and reopen my account for one year. Will I ever get it? Doesn't look like it, does it?
