AOL - AOL Credit Alert charged $ 79.99 for service not received

Complaints.com received the following consumer message on February 1, 2003:

Around October AOL Credit Alert charged me 79.99 for their service I did not receive. I made numerous phone calls to my credit card company about this and to AOL Credit Alert. AOL Credit Alert said they did not have me on their files (but how was I billed?), so I told my credit card company. They eventually took it off, 73.32 around December. They also took off for something else that there were no purchases for 79.99 (in other words they took off a ghost transaction).

I check my credit card almost every week and I noticed that AOL re-billed me for AOL Credit Alert, so I believe, but for the 73.32? Now I just caught this, AOL Credit Alert charged me 79.99 my credit card took off 73.32 for it not 79.99. Now I am being charged for something else, a ghost transaction I believe. I am in the process of trying to get this worked out. AOL, if you have an AOL Credit Card you get points towards free AOL. I recently turned in my points to get 2 months free AOL, but noticed I was still charged for AOL. After making many phone calls again, they had to send it to their investigators and to put back my points to my card. How come they cannot just look at my credit card (since it is AOL) and notice that the company charged me when it was supposed to be free. How hard is that? Above all I believe I am going to cancel AOL.

I was even told by the employee who was trying to help me that this was not the first time she has heard of this. I have had nothing but trouble with this company and their AOL Broadband connection is slow. Above all do not trust AOL. If you have anything AOL you should check your credit card bills very carefully.
