RE: Berkline Zero Stress Massage Recliner - chair stuck in recline position and replaced - several repairs done to replacement chair - trying to get refund for full purchase price from Berkline
I purchased Berkline Zero Stress Massage Recliner 12/2001, a $3000 chair, for husband's chronic pain. Within 2 weeks it was replaced - it stuck in the fully reclined position. In September I began attempting to get the chair repaired, footrest wasn't working properly and began to drag on the floor.
First repair done 12/10/2002 (swing-link mechanism), second repair done 12/28/2002 (entire footrest), still not fixed, found that the seat frame metal is actually TORN! Berkline is still dragging their feet - 01/13/2003 agreed to refund full purchase price through the store I bought from.
Berkline only wants to refund COST of chair to the store, not purchase price - wants the store to eat the difference which isn't fair. So, I have a broken, lemon of a chair. Filed complaint with BBB - Berkline LIED to them about status of my claim so BBB says they can't do anything. Berkline does not respond to my email or fax. Everyone is pointing fingers at someone else.
Each time I'm scheduled to see an attorney, HealthStyle Products (parts for Berkline and acting intermediary) says "This is what we're going to do...", and then nothing happens. I have another appointment with my attorney...
