SprintCell Phone - trouble with account cancellation

I have a contract with Sprint for our 3 cell phones. I wanted to cancel with them because the service was terrible. The phones never worked in my house. I missed calls for work because the phone did not ring.

My wife tried to cancel service over the phone in January and was not able because she wasn't authorized. They gave her a hard time and she asked, if all they wanted was to hear from a man, to have the phone cancelled. They got angry and told her that, now, nothing could be done and that I would have to go in person to a Sprint store to cancel.

I called them personally and they stuck by the story that I had to come into the store in person with 2 proofs of ID. There are no Sprints stores that are convient to my house but I did go to one which was almost an hour away. When I got there, no one seemed to know about my problem. I had to get on the phone there and call Sprint from a special room.

They told me that I could not cancel because I still had time left on my contract. They said that I would have to pay a cancellation fee of $150.00 on each phone. I think I should have been told about this, the first time I called (over the phone), so I didn't have to waste my time going to the store. The whole thing took about about 2 hours and my problem was still not solved.

Then, about a week ago, the phones were stolen out of my van. I went to the police station and filed a report. I called Sprint and they are still not going to cancel the phone. The phones never worked properly and I just want them to cancel my service and forget about all the trouble they caused me. I don't want to pay for phones that don't work!!
