Simmons Beautyrest Galileo Mattress
We bought this beautiful, (at first) comfortable, expensive, hunk of fluff at a local furniture store that subsequently moved to a larger town more than 25 miles from our home (30 miles from their former location.) They in changing locations and expanding also discontinued handling Simmons Beautyrest problems! Oh, excuse me, mattresses.
They stated that this change was because they had replaced a lot of Simmons Beautyrest Mattresses of the same type and time as we had purchased this mattress due to a defect in manufacture in a plant in the Texas area.
We bought the Beautyrest mattress due to my husband's poor health and problems getting adequate sleep. In fact, we bought two mattresses one for each bedroom the mattress for the second bedroom WAS NOT a SIMMONS BEAUTYREST this mattress has had almost the same amount of use and is a pillow top and is NOT showing the breakdown that the Beautyrest has shown. (In fact, we are unable to find any signs of breakdown or compaction.)
We were given forms and the name of a Simmons representative by the furniture company to help us with our claim. After sending this form in we were informed that it was not the proper form and were sent a four page form, we filled this in, did all of the measurements, filled in all of the diagrams and illustrations, took pictures and submitted them with the form. In places the "compression" is up to 3 inches deep!
We got a form letter stating that the measurements were "not accurate due to the measurements were taken within the stitching channel and not in the center of the quilting pattern." This particular mattress has random figures quilted at about 4-5 inch intervals not regular stitching channels.
The warranty code B-3 is 100 percent replacement during the life which is 10 years. This mattress was purchased on 8-14-97. We have been trying to get some contact with the Simmons representatives since August of 2001 and finally started getting written replies on 11-21-01.
I was told by their representative within the hour that this mattress is like an old fashioned feather bed and that body impressions are normal and not a part of the warranty. The coils are what are guaranteed and they are only the thickness of a "dollar bill" (I believe that they must really be about the height of the length of a dollar bill, but on the other hand, they may be compressible to the thickness of a dollar bill!!!) Now, being old enough to have seen a few feather beds I know that the owners fluffed them up every morning.
Could you tell me just how a person would fluff up a beautyrest mattress to restore it's buoyancy and comfort? (I might add that this call was in response to a call that my husband made more than a week ago and was asked to give them 48 hours to review our complaint and respond before we posted our complaint on the internet.)
I would recommend that anyone having a problem with thir Beautyrest mattress get in touch with the company, flood them with your complaints, put the mattress out in the kennel or better yet donate it to the humane society for temporary use.

We purchased our mattress at an Olympia, Washington store less than 6 years ago. The warranty is still good - but our "body impressions" are making it way too uncomfortable to sleep on the mattress, since we are sleeping directly on the bedsprings. We ache and cannot sleep at night. If the company is non-responsive to this issue, they are probably aware of this problem. We will be searching for a product that avoids this problem, and never purchase another Simmons again.
