The Hotel Alcott

107-113 Grant St.

Cape May, New Jersey. Disappointing expensive stay. There are no elevators. We were not told this. Our room was a third floor walk up. Our room windows were nailed shut. You cannot open a window in your room for ventilation, that is besides being very dangerous as well. A fire trap! Other guests said their room windows were the same. There is a minimum 2 night stay with a not less than three week cancellation policy. If there is a cancellation you face a forfeiture of half the cost. On their Internet site there is a virtual tour of the lobby, this is quite deceiving. I don't know when that image was taken but certainly not recently. The rooms are very small and not decorated "Victorian" ~ they are just OLD!

There is no on site parking for guests. Off site guest parking means metered parking on street or find a spot on a street nearby...if you can. We wound up walking 3 blocks.

Mattress was awful! Cheap and soft.

First floor veranda with rocking chairs was in very poor condition. Peeling paint on rockers and floor.

The restaurant wait staff were impatient and unfriendly. Most did not speak or understand English well enough to be of service. A lot of attitude! All in all it was an over priced, disappointing place to stay on Cape May, New Jersey. Other guests were voicing the same complaints. Too bad, as the location was good. We do not recommend this hotel at all! Linda
