2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI October 15, 2006 My complaint is against Volkswagen North America and Metro Volkswagen, Irving Texas. The following occurred September 2005. The Air Conditioner in my 2005 Jetta went out 4 months into ownership of the car. I took it into the dealership mentioned above where they kept the car for 2 days with no loaner or offer to provide alternate transportation. The car was and is still under full warranty. Two weeks later, after the initial work was done, the AC went out again. Average temperature at the time in North Texas was 95 degrees. During the two weeks after taking it in, I received a coupon from Volkswagen North America for an oil and filter change for my vehicle for $26. I set an appointment and returned the car to them. I presented the $26 oil/filter change coupon in good faith to the dealership and they accepted it. They agreed to repair the AC and perform an oil/filter change. I did receive a loaner this time. I returned the next day to pick up the car after the dealership contacted me. Upon checking out I received the bill for $72 for the oil change. I reminded the VW representative and their service manager of the coupon I presented to them which they accepted, in good faith, stating a complete oil/filter change for my automobile for $26. They stated the coupon did not apply to my particular model. I then reminded them the coupon came directly to my address, via US postal, with my name and a photo of a 2006 VW Jetta TDI on it from VW America. After arguing and some heated words, I paid the bill in order to get my keys and car back from them. The AC was properly repaired this time. I promptly contacted VW North America after the incident. They explained the dealerships work independently of VW corporate and they are not responsible for the overcharge and the dealer has the right to charge whatever they deem equitable. I also stated the dealership accepted the coupon when I checked in misleading me to believe the charge for the oil/filter change would be $26. I have had my oil/filters changed twice since the incident at an average cost of $30 at 2 different non dealer garages where they performed the task perfectly. My complaint is 2 fold. 1. It took two attempts to get VW to properly repair my 3 month old AC during the sweltering North Texas summer only receiving a loaner for the second return of the car. 2. I was misled by VW corporate and the dealership by a coupon they did not and apparently never intended to honor.
