Kost tire, Nedrow, NY Kost tire, Nedrow, NY October 14, 2006 Kost Tire 6130 S Salina St Syracuse, NY 13205 (315) 469-3224 I went to Kost tire for brake work last summer after I was unable to loosen the bolts on one of my calipers to change the pads myself. The service I received there I can only describe as horrendous. It started with the call they made to me when they finally finished their work on my car. They called me about 20 minutes or less before they closed for the evening, and I live about 7 miles away with no public transportation available between. They did not offer me any way to get to my car other than picking it up myself in that very small window of time. I then picked up my car and the first thing I noticed was that they had put my tires back on incorrectly. I have directional tires (BF Goodrich Traction T/A) which have very easy-to-read arrows on them indicating which direction they should rotate. They were all rotating the correct way when I dropped off the car, but only two were when I picked it up. This is rather bothersome for a company that has the word tire in its name! When I got home with my car, I wanted to correct this myself, since they were already closed by the time I got home with it. I attempted to loosen the lug nuts and found they were severely over tightened. I attempted to use a 4 foot pipe for leverage to loosen one lug, which subsequently stripped off. No lug nut should ever be that tight, as it can damage the lugs themselves. Also, I noticed that one wheel had only 4 lug nuts (out of 5) on it. I suspect that the threads on that lug may have been previously stripped, but they made no mention of the bad lug in any of their communications with me. The fact that they would allow a car to go back out on the road without even mentioning this is horrible. Also, when they told me what pads they installed, they said they used semi-metallic. The OEM specification for my car is to use ceramic pads. A brake shop should know that and abide by it. The total for this work was over $700. I then paid a reputable shop another $40 to remove the stripped lug nut that they had over-torqued and another $60 to have the stripped lug replaced that they didn't even seem to notice. I only wish I had known ahead of time that repair shop complaints can be submitted to the New York Department of Transportation for review within 6 months.
