Experience with AAA Movers, NJ

October 14, 2006

I generally do not like to elaborate on experiences, but in this case I simply cannot resist myself from

lamenting you with one of the most dissappointing and frustrating experiences in my life. An experience that taught me that for some people commitments do not matter at all I wanted to make my move a pleasant experience and so started planning for it much in advance. Went to movers.com and googled a couple of movers to get a reasonable quote. Eureka finally found AAA movers and contacted them. $80/hr for three men, inclusive of truck rental seemed quite a decent deal. I immediately contacted them at 1888-828-MOVE and spoke to a lady named Lana, and asked her to send someone for an onsite assessment so that we could have a fair estimation of the cost incurred while moving well in advance. One of AAA's employees named Dennis arrived at our place at 11:00 am sharp on saturday morning, per my conversation with Lana. We were really impressed by his punctuality. He made an assessment report and estimated that the total moving time would be 7 hrs. Saturday between 12-2pm was decided as the moving time. Well the moving day- a Saturday seemed a perfect weekend,as we thought that the moving was well planned. Unfortunately we were so wrong. Below is a description of our moving experience: We wait anxiously for the movers. At 2:00pm no one turns up and so I call Lana to trace the movers. Lana informs me that the movers are with some other client and should be at our place definitely by 3:00PM. I wait till 3:30PM, without a call from Lana and decide to call again. This time she laments that the movers are still with the same client. She further blames the client for not giving them correct estimation of their belongings. I sympathize with the movers, and she assures me that the movers should be there in other 15 minutes, and that I should expect a call from them soon. I wait till 4:45,do not hear anything from the movers, and so decide to call Lana again. Lana still gives me the same old excuse, and assures me that she is trying to get in touch with the movers who should be at my place in other 15 minutes, and again assures me that someone will definitely call me. I wait till 5:30 and finally get a call from Dennis. He assures me that the movers are on the way and that the move will certainly be done by the end of the day. Further he states that they will give me a discount on the move. 15 minutes become an hour and this time I call up Dennis and leave a voice mail expressing my frustration and helplessness. At 7:00PM my wife calls up Lana who again assures us that the movers are on the way and should reach our place in 5 minutes. We finally get somewhat happy on hearing this, since till now we were being told by Lana to wait for 15 minutes. Till 8:00PM we do not hear a word from the movers and finally I call up Lana to cancel the move. We express our utmost displeasure and let her know how appalled we are at their unprofessionalism, and would like to speak to their manager. At 8:30pm, my wife gets an unpleasant call from Dennis, who rudely informs her that they were on the way when we cancelled the move!!!! I still admire their guts for blaming us for the debacle and refusing to be apologetic for the whole

episode. Surprisingly no one from their office has gotten in touch with us till date. My only advice to

the readers:

1. SAY NO TO AAA MOVERS

2. MAKE IT A POINT TO CALL ANY MOVER FOR ONSITE EVALUATION BEFORE THE MOVE.THIS WILL NOT ONLY HELP YOU BUT WILL ALSO HELP THE NEXT CUSTOMER IN LINE.

3. MAKE SURE THAT THEY INCLUDE ALL THE BELONGINGS THAT NEED TO BE MOVED IN THE EVALUATION LIST Rohit

I found moving to be very stressful. I had problems selling my house, buying a house, and some personal issues. I was very skeptical about the number of moving companies that called me. I have maybe 15 different companies calling me each bashing each other. The only company that called me and did not talk smack about anybody else was AAA Movers. Surprisingly they had the lowest rates. I asked them how can they afford to have such low rates, they responded “We would rather have more jobs in the end of the day.†I booked for an onsite estimate because I wanted an accurate estimate. A gentleman named, Eugene, came out. He was very punctual, very nice, and professional. He went room by room asking me what we were taking and how much packing will we do. I told him we will pack majority of the things, we will need big items packed, taken apart, and put back together. We booked with him for 4 men @$85/ hr. The men were at the job on time. I signed all the contracts, went over the paper work, and they began to work. The knew what they were doing. They took some breaks but I didn’t care because they were working hard so it was fine. They finished faster then I expected. The packing materials cost me $800, Eugene estimated it to be $750. The hours were just on the dot 12 hours. I was very happy with their work. The men even stayed a bit after the hours ran out and finished putting together the bed. I was very happy and satisfied.

I moved with AAA Movers a while back. I was moving a small 1 bedroom apartment. I filled out the info on some website. A bunch of people started calling me. A woman named Lana was the last one to call me. Since I already knew what kind of questions to expect from her I began asking my own. The lowest rate I got from other companies was an estimate of 3 men @ $85/ hr for 5 hours. When I spoke to Lana she shocked me with their hourly rates, 3 men @ $70, their 4 men rates are $85. Right of the bet she told me that packing will be additional. I asked her around how much will it cost to move my apartment, she told me $600-$700. If I pack everything myself then $400. I made a reservation (for which I did not have to leave a deposit which was awesome). I still shopped around after but did not find anybody to beat their prices. The guys came a half an hour late, they did call me to let me know they are running late. 3 big guys came, the forman who has been moving people for 5 years opened the contract. While I was talking to the forman the other guys began to work. They finished the job in exactly 5 hours, the job came out to be $730. I did not pack anything. I was really happy. Recommend them 100%.

I used AAA Movers, Inc. to move my house. I called a couple of company’s to do an onsite estimate. The first company that came out was AAA Movers, Inc. a guy by the name of Eugene came out to do the estimate he told me that it would be $1600 to move my house. I told him I would get back to him. Then I had other company’s come, I got estimates like $3400, $3000. At that point I asked the other estimators why can AAA Movers, Inc. charge so much less. They told me that AAA Movers, Inc. are scammers and that I shouldn’t go with them. I still went with AAA Movers, Inc. they were the cheapest, and the estimator looked professional. Well long story short my final bill was $1900 and you know what the guys did a great job and even though the estimate went up I still got the cheapest price and a Great crew. I would recommend using them and I would use them again.

Experience with AAA Movers, NJ

September, 2007

I just had a move done by AAA Movers Inc. I was moving a two bedroom apartment I found the company online. When I called I spoke to Lana she gave me a quote which said 3 men at $70hr for 6 hrs estimated time and all packing materials are additional and that the movers will not move the belonging unless they are properly packet well I didnt think anything of it. So I didnt care about packing since the rate was so low. There were other companys that were telling me that I should be careful that they were going to scam me and charge me 100% more. I also didnt care what they told me since I had a budget to stick to. On the day of the move three guys showed up on a truck the forman name was Justin we went over the contracts and there were some things that needed to be packet he told me. Like my mirror which I thought I could get away with it my TV which I do understand why and some other glass pieces I got worried right away and thought that I am going to get scammed just like I was told. When I called the office about these charges packing materials and spoke to Lana to see if there is anything that could be done and WOW was she helpful. She told me dont worry go to a store and get some boxes while the guys are moving the big peaces so they can use those boxes to pack some of my things so thats what I did since there boxes were like $10 each. I went to Shop Rite that was by my house and got a bunch off FREE boxes, and brought them to the guys. At the end my final bill was $470. Which was $50 over my estimate and you know what it was better that the estimates that I got from other companys that told me it will be Around $1000. I was happy with my move the staff was very helpful and the forman was kind of cute great guys great team. Would always use them again. Next time I will try to get the boxes ahead of time.

AAA MOVERS INC.
185 6TH AVE
PATERSON, NJ 07524

My situation is simular to the other posters. On May 9th., 2007 I meet with a Estimator Eugene from AAA Mover Inc. Paterson, NJ. When he came to my home he was escorted around all rooms and levels of the home to review the contents of the home and that they would need to have tools on the truck to access an opening on the second floor to get the queen size mattress out. At this time 90% of the home was packed, since I was only residing there on a temporary basis till there was a sale of another property of mine. I bring this up because I would feel it is much easier to estimate an already packed home verses a home that is not. Additionally, approximately 80% of the content of the home was on the first floor or stored in the basement. I was given an ESTIMATE for $490. which was to INCLUDE the travel time, 3 men at $70.00 Per hour. Also a confirmation of the estimate via email to me now called a QUOTE and its for the same estimated price. Even there they say,and I qoute>>"YOUR MOVE INCLUDES AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE:Load, Unload, Delivery, Dissemble & Reassemble, Workers, Gas, Mileage, Truck EXTRA CHARGERS FOR YOUR MOVE:Additional Packing Materials (if needed)Cancellation fee of $75.00 applies to moves cancelled less than 24 hrs.<<<<end of quote.

There is no mention that travel time is a additional charge. *Notice that packing material is additional if needed. We also discussed that I would need to purchase 6 mattress protectors and T.V. boxes and the price for these items where inflated and I was concerned. We came to an agreement that I would provide the protection for the mattress and we would trade out the free boxes they supply for the television boxes needed. We also discussed the travel time and I was under the infuence that travel was included. The estimator corrected me and I went to emails that were sent to me by several companies and did infact read the one from his company and confirm what he had told me. The email said it would be for one way to my location and that it was included in the quote. He too said it is in the quote. We then set up the time and date for June 1st., 2007 between 8:00-9:00. The day of the move they did not show up till 11:30 and since I had to be moved out that day I started the move without them. I unloaded into the driveway almost all the boxes from the basement and first floor and second and third, leaving behind the ones that where too heavy for me to move by myself. All in all only a hand full were still in the house and the furniture. I was faced with a papers to sign pertaining to the time they started and insurance and who knows what since I did not get copies. I had no other recourse on getting another mover at the last minute and just had to get the stuff out since the Landlord had just sold the property and closed on it that very same morning, I was paying rent at the new home and had to get my daughter in the new school by Monday and with all my belonging in the driveway and I have two dogs. Living on the street was not an option. So under duress I signed the papers. I was told that they took so long because of the travel time and it took them 3 hours to get to me. I was floored since I thought they had a local facility. Two of the men removed the contents and loaded the boxes while the other man blanket wrapped the furniture. They did not bring any tools and that became a problem with getting the mattresses out and was an inconvience. The tools I supplied them I never got back. We get to my Shrewsbury location and I and handed a bill they wanted paid for $ $1,291.49 before the items were taken off the truck and the amount was more than doubled than what was quoted! Additionally, I had to sign a bunch more papers and pay up or they where taking my stuff and putting it into storage and auctioning it if I would not pay it. At first I thought of giving them a check and then would cancle payment but they would not accept a check only cash, certified check or money order or credit card. But if I used a credit card I had to also sign a waiver that I would not "charge back" the amount. So being under duress again I then decided to call the police and make a report of the situation and have it logged that I was paying and signing the papers but unwillingly. Some of the cost adding to the inflation was $300 dollars was added on for packing materials that were not needed or even used on my job. For example packing paper and bubble wrap and boxes. I found about 15 pieces of paper used and 2 ft. of bubble wrap. They claim they used 26 boxes and that is a lie and impossible. But the boxes they did use and where misused for example my daughters stuffed animals where in a laundry basket and they put them in a $75.00 box! I could have purchased new ones for that amount of money. Also they put card board on a piece of furniture that only needed a blanket, that too was $75.00. These supplies were not needed! They also claimed they used 22 rolls of tape. Was this a like it was a ticker tape parade? It was to wrap the blankets around 7 pieces of furniture. I was preoccupied and not aware that they where doing this and I would have certainly stopped them from spending my money so frivolously if I knew it was happening and at what cost. But much of these charge are not valid. Also, the travel time $300. And poor estimation of moving time.

This company engages in deceptive and illegal practice, false advertising, price gouging, profiteering, coercive monopoly, extortion, and third degree robery.
