After going to the gym - World's Gym in Buford, GA. - and finding it closed over a two week period, I finally arrived and read on the door of the facility that the gym was closed permanently. I never received a letter, phone call or e-mail alerting me to the gym closing in any way and haven't to this day. I called Paramount Acceptance and relayed to them that the gym was closed and I wanted payment stopped. They told me that payment already went in for that month but they would put a hold on future payments. They were aware that this particular World's Gym location was closed and said that they would transfer membership to another gym. I said I did not want my membership transferred. Three weeks later Paramount called and said they couldn't cancel my contract because they - World's Gym - had transferred my membership to a gym in Duluth - I forget the name. I never received a letter, phone call or e-mail telling me who held my membership until this time and still haven't received anything. I called that gym and they told me I had to write them a letter requesting my membership cancelled which I did. Two weeks later Paramount called saying they needed proof of cancellation. I called this gym and they acknowledged receipt of my letter, but refused to cancel my membership until I played them 34 dollars for the previous month. I never knew I was a member of this gym and they are refusing to cancel a membership of which I had no knowledge of and expressly stated that I did not want. I think this is a draconian business practice that allows that I feel if not outright illegal is morally reprehensible. Think everyone should be made aware of practices like these and would love any information in resolving this dispute. Thank you.
