To Whom it May Concern:

I am constantly receiving computerized telephone calls from 800 456-8838. This is extremely annoying and possibly on the edge of harrassment. I would appreciate it if you could stop allowing them to harrass me by the use of the phone service that you provide to me. A block on the number is requested.

That number is for Alliance One Collections. They seem to primarily attempt collections for government debts like traffic tickets, parking tickets, and other minor offenses. They also go by the name of Allied Credit.

As with most collection agencies, they are rude, demanding, and want personal information that you should be prepared NOT to give them (like work numbers, family/relatives numbers etc). However, since the majority of their work involves government debts, I'd answer their calls or return their calls and see what the debt is about. It might be in your best interest to do so if you've forgotten a ticket which may lead to your driver's license being suspended. You can dial *67 before calling their number to block your phone number/name from appearing on their screen. However, if you call an 800 number, they'll have your phone number since they're paying for the call. Use a payphone until you absolutely are sure that what they are collecting for is legitimate.
