Earthlink

March 7, 2006

I had been an Earthlink customer since purchasing a MailStation e-mail machine several years ago. This was a prepaid plan, payable yearly. I have had several occasions to call Earthlink technical support and only found one tech who actually knew what he was talking about and could fix my problem. The others claimed that my "mailbox was too full" or my "dialup number wasn't in service". However, from 12/31/05 to 1/05/06, I was unable to receive any e-mail messages....calls to tech support continued with the usual excuses. Finally, on 1/06/06, they told me that the problem was at their end and asked that I wait another three days....which I did, but still the problem wasn't resolved. At that time I cancelled service and was told that a refund of my payment (made in December, 2005 for the 12-month period to December, 2006) would be credited to my credit card. When I received my March statement, no refund was shown, so I called Earthlink again. They told me the credit was made on 1/24/06, and it would take five to seven days to show...I reminded them that from 1/24/06 to 3/06/06 was slightly more than that amount of time. I was assured the refund was made. I then called my credit card company and was advised that there was no refund, and that it would show on my account within three days. I called Earthlink back and, after hearing the same story again, I told them what the credit card company said. I was then put on hold for several minutes, then told that the refund was credited to my Earthlink account, and no refund would be made otherwise. Why do I need a credit on the Earthlink account that I cancelled because the service I received was very poor, with no expectation of it ever getting better. I am now out $116.52 because I cancelled a company who is so inept they can't discover for over a week that a problem lies with their system, in addition to the other problems I'd experienced before. I would strongly advise anyone to never consider Earthlink as their computer service, especially if it requires a prepaid service.....because you're going to lose!!!!!!!!
