Express Camera - Buyer Beware!

March 6, 2006

After checking many merchants who advertised a discount price for a Nikon 18-200 mm DX VR Zoom lens but claimed to be sold out, I was initially thrilled when Express Camera that they had it in stock for $150.00 less than the regular retail price ($899.00). When I proceeded to place the order, the salesperson tried to convince me to purchase a "new" Sigma lens, claiming that he would give me a $300 discount off the $1199.00 price. He also claimed that they had this item in stock but it wasn't "officially" going to be delivered to retail stores until later in the month. Fortunately, I started to suspect a scam. Fortunately, refuse to order something without checking it out first. After some researching I learned that this "new" lens wasn't "brand" new after all. So, then I called back to place my original order. This time I didn't get the "bait-and-switch" talk right away, but after I told them what I wanted to order, they tried to sell me a set of "professional" glass filters... normally $399, for the price of plastic filters. That would come to about $150. Hmmmmm....that makes up for the discount price of their camera! Very interesting. Again, I started to suspect that I was being scammed. When I told the salesman that I would think about the filters and maybe order them later, he told me that he couldn't give me the same price unless I bought them at the same time as the camera. Then, I knew for sure that they were very shady, scam artists. Needless to say, they didn't get my business!!! My advice....think very carefully before you purchase something from Express Camera!
