UPS damages upaid

March 30, 2006

In late November 05 I took a computer to the PostNet store 129 in the Lowry Town Center in Denver Co. Since it was a computer I wanted to make sure it was wrapped properly and I wasn't sure how to do that so I paid them to wrap and ship. I also wanted to avoid the Christmas rush.

Well, the computer arrived about 5 days later, damaged. Not only was the box punctured, it was crushed in places. and although it looks like it was wrapped properly, the puncture went all the way through the bubble wrap. The recipient called to tell me first, the box was just left outside the door, a computer mind you, and second it was damaged. He wanted to know do what to do.

I called the PostNet store to find out who I should call. Well, I was told because they packed and shipped it, they had to do all the communicating with UPS main customer service. So pictures were sent of the damage and receipts etc. Now this all took place before Dec.15th.

I called weekly to find out what the problem was and initially I was told it was the Christmas rush, that excuse lasted till the end of January. February brought new excuses. March 11th, the person I shipped the computer to was in Denver and visited the Post Net store. He asked what the problem was and was told they didn't have a receipt for the actual cost even though all that paper work had been submitted in December and the itemized bill again in March. Well, we sat at PostNet's computer and pulled up the emailed receipt (for the second time), the one the employee swore they never received. The computer had sensitive material on the hard drive and we asked about deleting it. The employee said take the computer because UPS now had what they needed, (apparently the computer was sent back to the store).. They, Post Net,had what they needed by Dec. 15th!!!! The computer was returned to us in pieces, I mean that literally. Everything was taken apart and the cabinet looked like someone took a sledge hammer to it. Two days later the PostNet employee called me and said to hang on to it because UPS might want it back so I said okay, all I cared about was deleting the sensitive material. I had no idea if it would even work. I told him the computer was driven back to Illinois with the recipient to have the hard drive erased. He said that was not a problem and he also said a check should be in my hands in about ten days. On March 21st, the computer was picked up in Illinois, the original destination, for the SECOND TIME.

It is now March 30th, no computer, no check. Calling the PostNet Store yields no results, writing on line to the UPS customer service yields no results. I would tell anyone at this point, NEVER use UPS and also ask if anyone knows what else I can do to resolve this. I have been more that patient and I really don't feel this is normal operating procedure for any company.

Sincerely

B. D
