U-Haul Truck Rental (hunk 'o junk)

U-Haul Truck Rental (hunk 'o junk) U-Haul Truck Rental (hunk 'o junk) March 29, 2006 Reserved, paid and picked up the worst excuse for a rental that I have ever seen in the 40 years that I have been driving. Spent 3 hours bouncing around from U-Haul "courteous service people, sales people, customer service people" on two phones at the same time ... trying to get them to trade me a better "ride" ... you get the idea. I couldn't even return this hunk 'o junk because the dealer closed right after I drove it off the yard.
U-Haul expects me to drive this hunk 'o junk from Southern Delaware to Central Illinois, over the mountains of northern Maryland, across the Pennsylvania Turnpike, across the mountains of West Virginia, the interstates of Indiana and Illinois ... and I wouldn't drive it to Dover, Delaware!!!
Found another dealer who agreed to exchange this unsafe hunk 'o junk (over 200,000 miles on it, wheels out of alignment, tires out of balance, and a steering wheel that weebles and wobbles and could hardly get it up past 50 mph on flat Delaware roads ... and couldn't get U-haul to agree to the SWAP ... Now, I can't leave on my trip across country tomorrow. Who knows when I will be able to. Am I supposed to eat the $700+ for this crap?
... Same PROBLEM continues - both by phone AND by road ... was sent to Ocean City, Md. because they "have a truck waiting for you" ... got there 20 minutes later ... the dealer was CLOSED! Another call ... "have one in Salisbury, Md. ... Called there ... got an answer machine "closed for the day". Another call ... "There is one in Dover, DE." ... called and they said "We DON'T have one here!" Another call ... "I promise you we have one in Easton, Md. FINALLY, I got a truck ... not the best one I've ever driven and for fewer miles and less time than the original contract ... BUT I GOT a truck!
TWO WHOLE DAYS SCREWED BECAUSE U-HAUL is the "FRIENDLIEST" in town!
Will be eloquently be tarring and feathering this deal with a vigorous writing campaign to Nightline, 48 Hours, 20/20 and anyone else I can think of!!! TALK ABOUT FALSE ADVERTISING!!!
