Carmax in Inglewood I was sweet talked by a nice old lady who told me all abought the rigorous inspection process all CARMAX vehicles go thru. So I test drove a 98 Pontiac grand prix and I liked the car. After the test drive I walked around the car and found a hanging direction light in the front passenger side, a Dulled out headlight on the driver side, and the bottom of the engine had a thick layer of what I though was dirt. How did these thing get by their 100 point inspection? The jolli old lady who sold me the car said all these things will be fixed. Two days latter the water pump breaks and the car over heats on the freeway, leaving me stranded. I then took the car to the Carmax service department to get the problem fixed, at the same time I asked them if the headlights had been ordered. They told me not yet. It took them four days to replace the broken water pump( I could have done it in 4 hours). The car ran fine after the new pump was installed. I then called the service department every other day for one month looking for news on the headlights that were supposed to be on order, all I got was " they should be here in a couple days. I never got the lights from carmax. Instead I got so frustrated that I went down there for the forth time and told the service manager that I had enough, I was going to my local dealership to buy the lights with my own money and I was bringing them the receipt. The manager said "OK, good, just bring back the receipt and we'll mail you a check". It took me one hour to buy and install the parts on the car. Why was it taking them so long to get the lights. That is how slow and unreliable their service is. To top it off Its now been one month since I bought the head lights and still have not received the check they promised to send. Do your self a favor and avoid carmax. I will never buy from carmax again and would not recommend car max to anyone. JGN
