AOL

June 29, 2006

I just hung up after a 35 minute conversation with AOL. I discovered an unauthorized electric funds withdrawal for $28.90 from my checking account. I called AOL and told them that I had canceled my account several months earlier. I was told that I had re-activated my account and agreed to give them a free 2 month trial. This was the third month and so I was being charged. I told them that IF I did reinstate the account, it was a mistake. I now had DSL and have no need for dial-up. The representative, "John", told me there was nothing he could do outside of closing my account. I asked to speak w/ the supervisor. John told me "no". He said that this was not a supervisory issue and he would not transfer me. He again told me that my account was reactivated and nothing could be done. John and I went back-and-forth; when I asked to speak w/ his supervisor-- he would tell me, "no". Finally I lowered my voice to just above a whisper and mirrored his words back to him. I told him that I understood that my account was reactivated and the supervisor would not help me. Then I asked to speak w/ the supervisor again. (By this point I was livid! If I could have strangled the AOL representative, John, I would have gladly done so!) He laughed and put me on hold. I was on hold for around 10 minutes and "Ben" came on the phone. I explained the situation and told him that I wanted a refund. The withdrawal from my account was unauthorized. Ben took care of this very quickly and sent me on my way. What a nightmare! Barb
