National Fitness Financial Services National Fitness Financial Services June 29, 2006 Almost 2 years ago I signed a 3 year contract with American Family Fitness Center in Glen Allen, VA. A year and a half ago I quit going to the facility but had not moved away from the facility for my contract to be removed. However, in November of 2005 I moved to Williamsburg, VA. Which is 1 hour from the closest American Family. I had totally forgotten about the contract until the end of May 2006. One day I went on my bank account and realized that I was still being charged for this contract. $65.00 a month!!!! Since I had not been in the facility in a year and a half that equals $1170.00 that they had received and I had not but one foot in the facility. I called National Fitness Financial Services and asked what I needed to do to get this taken care of. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone explained that I would have to fax a letter that I had moved with a copy of a utility bill and it would take 30 days to process. I would also be charged ANOTHER $100.00 to break the contract. I explained that I did not feel I should have to pay that since I had already paid almost $1200.00 already without going to the gym. He agreed and said he wouldn't charge me the fee to break the contract. That day I faxed the letter with a copy of the utility bill getting a confirmation that the letter was sent from the fax machine. I then received a phone call a month later (I was explained it would take 30 days) that I had a balance on my account and it would be sent to collections if I didn't pay it (I had recently changed bank accounts and they didn't have my information any more!!!) I explained the situation to the lady on the phone and she said there was nothing that could be done until they received the letter I would have to pay. She proceeded to tell me they had not even received the letter. I explained once again that I had not used the facility in a year and a half but they had gotten $65.00 from me every month and I didn't feel I should have to pay anymore. I would be more than happy to fax the letter again and then they could cancel the contract. She said NO that until they received the letter I would have to pay. She was RUDE and NASTY and told me "There is nothing that can be done for you. Pay us and when you get the letter to us it will take another 30 days so you will be charged again which you WILL have to pay." They do not care about wanting to help out even if it is not your fault that they letter didn't make it to them!! From what I understand from this website even when they get the letter they make up excuses to not let you out and drag it on further so you continue to have to pay them!!! I have left a message with the Fitness Facility but once again I understand from this website they will do nothing to help you out either!!! I will NEVER do business with that Fitness Facility and I will NEVER NEVER do business with National Fitness Financial Services!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I told them that i faxed a letter and mailed out the payment and that i had the canceled check. apparently they applied the money into my mothers account (totally different number)This was after about a month of arguing with them telling them that i had paid my obligation, the guy said they would fix the problem and that i was all set. 2 days ago i received another letter stating that i owe for last month, apparently they never canceled the account and just took my money. I told them (they are the rudest people i have ever had to deal with by the way) I would be sending them a letter of validation and a lawyer she told me go ahead and hung up on me. NEVER DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE CROOKS.
