Sears Craftsman Riding Mower Model 1100 Sears Craftsman Riding Mower Model 1100 June 28, 2006 this is s copy of my complaint to the Consumer Product Safety Commision...
On 05-19-06, i purchased a Craftsman LT100 riding lawnmower. I used the mower twice w/o incident. On the evening of 06-19-06, my wife awakened me to tell me that there was a problem with the mower...As the mower had been sitting idle on my carport, I had trouble envisioning what sort of problem there could be. She then informed me that it was leaking gasoline and that the fumes were almost overpowering. I immediately decided that the first order of business was to get the mower away from the house and off of the carport..I reached over and put the mower in neutral, and while standing on the LEFT side of the mower, attempted to push it backwards...the bottom edge of the mower deck housing rubbed against my foot about 1 inch above my left ankle, lacerating my foot to the bone...There was blood everywhere instantly....I immediately grabbed a towel and applied pressure to stop the blood loss....i refused to go to the emergency room after once the bleeding was stopped, but i DID go to my regular PCP the next morning for a tetanus shot and 3 stitches..As i see it, there are 2 problems with this mower.....a faulty leaking fuel tank, and a ridiculously unsafe, razor-sharp edge in an area where a person is repeatedly required to place their feet. type business location and detailed complaint
as a footnote, let me add that the management of this Sears Outlet has been VERY rude, belligerent, uncooperative, and has repeatedly failed to keep their word as to returning phone calls when they promised....They also attempted to replace this mower with one that had ben used and damaged.

I can not believe that we live in a world where something like this could ever happen and the fact that you were not simply given three new mowers, a settlement check of 6 figures, and last but not least; a pair of inexpensive boots...even ones from Kmart would be fine...to make sure this could never happen again is simply appauling. After reading your story, I am going to boycott anything to do with Sears or Craftsman...I refuse to even deal with a store or brand name that begins with the letters "C" or "S" from now on. If you require any grief support, a shoulder to cry on, or all of the sympathy I can possibly offer then feel free to contact me. It may not be much but I will do anything in my power to help you through these desperate times. "As for the gasoline problem...I assure you that it is a fluke and things like this happen from time to time no matter what brand you buy. Secondly, I'm sorry you didn't treat this piece of machinery with respsect like you would ALL machinery and give it some space. Furthermore why were you sleeping while your wife was cutting the grass? Enough said!!!" read THIS!!! http://money.cnn.com/2004/10/29/news/fortune500/sears_mower/index.htm also...NO ONE was using the mower at the time....if you'd bother to READ ALL of the post you'd have seen that...and, i'm sorry that you weren't issued a working brain... tell the truth...you work for sears, don't you..??
