Comcast telephone service Comcast telephone service June 18, 2006 Beware of Comcast telephone service! Recently, for reasons Comcast can't identify, my voice disappears during phone conversations, so that I now start a conversation by warning, If you can't hear me, I haven't hung up on you! When I phone a friend who lives in the same building, I now get the recorded message, "Extension xxx xxxxxxx is not available to take your call." The phone number is not an extension; others dialling it get through without difficulty. Service technicians have come twice, to no avail. In the second instance, the tech rep was 3 hours and 20 minutes late. Their explanation was that although the appointment was scheduled for between 8 and 11 a.m., the rep didn't come to work until noon. One tech rep suggested that the problem is related to digital rather than analog service. This, of course, is nonsense, since their digital service worked okay for several weeks. Comcast is new to the telephone business, and it obviously has wrinkles to iron out. I'm no longer willing to be their guinea pig.
