GE Air Conditioner GE Air Conditioner July 14, 2006 PC Richards on 14th Street in NYC I purchased a small, but fairly expensive window unit for my bedroom in my Manhattan apartment. It was over 330$ but PC Richards told me it would be silent, barely audible. Right after it was installed, it started making a strange noise (it sounds like it is asthmatic, kind of a huffing and puffing noise that suddenly kicks it). It is extremely annoying and as a result, I cannot use it at night. I called customer service of PC Richards the next day and they told me this is normal and the noise will go away in a day or so as the liquid has to settle down. After 5 days and the noise still kicking in every few minutes, I called customer service again who told me to wait another week. After that week had expired, they referred me to the GE customer service. A friendly person showed up who told me that he had never serviced this model before and that he does not know why it makes this sound. He asked me if it cools the air and I said yes, upon which he replied that it did he said I should wait a few days. After a few days with the noise still being present, I called again. I was given the answer that it was now over four weeks since I purchased the unit. It was not their problem any more and that I should wrap the thing up and send it (on my expense) to General Electric and try to have it fixed. I explained that I had complaint pretty much the next day after I bought the unit and that I was told to wait, etc. The person I spoke to was extremely rude and told me not my problem and hung up. Months later, the unit is still not functional because of the noise. Well, what should I say. I did not buy my washer, refrigerator and other AC unit etc at PC RICHARDS as I had planned originally. And I tell everyone to avoid this store no matter what.
