New Zealand car sale

July 14, 2006

In New Zealand, if you sell a car, the buyer is the only one that can change the ownership. I sold a car to a person, took their details and went to LTSA to complete and pay for the transfer. I was told I coudn't and that it had to be the buyer of the vehicle.

This person is gone and I have no way of finding him but because of LTSA rules, since the buyer has not followed through with his obligation, I am now responsible for any fines incurred by this vehicle.

I currently have a warrant out for my arrest because the person I sold the car to has not registered it;

I did everything I could to do the right thing and I am now being hed to ransom by the District Court via LTSA.

People should know about this huge flaw in the system
