Dish Network Problems

September 7, 2005

I have had a myriad of problems. I surely regret ever contacting that company. Some of the issues I had are below. They initially would not acknowledge an offer I heard on the radio until I threatened to call the radio station to let them know Dish was not honoring the promo. May 11, 2005 my credit card was charged $49.99 activation fee that was to be waived as the promo indicated. May 13, 2005 my credit card was charged another $49.99 (according to my credit card company) When I finally found someone who claimed to know of it, I scheduled the service to be installed. They were going to do the easiest installation possible leaving a wire hanging in my living room. It was rescheduled and I did get a better installation on July 10th. I was unable to view the 60 channels indicated in the promo, apparently a second dish needed to be installed. So for all intents and purposes I did not receive the 60 promised channels. When I called to complain about not receiving all 60 channels, I was offered a free 180 channel trial offer. It was never turned on. I called to complain that I was not getting the 60 channels, was promised the 180 trial and that it was not turned on. I was promised again it would be turned on and it wasn't. Also, whenever I needed to call Dish, I always confirmed the price of $19.99 per month for a year which was indicated in the promo on the radio, and confirmed in an email I have in my possession (I did not trust just a verbal confirmation). The price went up several times depending on the person on the other end of the phone. I finally called them and in rather colorful language told them to come and get their equipment that I wanted nothing more to do with their company. First they did not want to schedule a deinstall, but after insisting they scheduled a complete deinstall. I was surprised when I received a box to return the equipment. I called them and asked them why I was sent a box if the deinstall was scheduled. I was told to disregard the box. On July 25th, the equipment was deinstalled and removed from my premises by the installer. I breathed a sigh of relief at not having to deal with Dish Network again. But then several days later a UPS man came to my door with a shipping label with tracking info from Dish Network. It stated on the label that three attempts had been made to recover the equipment. I called Dish Network, again I was told to disregard the label. Well, I spoke with my credit card company today and guess what, my credit card was charged $226 for equipment, What a surprise!!!!! I currently have a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. I would like to either be a participant with a class action suit or begin one if I can. Just another part of this is that between the time I ordered service and the equipment was installed, I received AT LEAST A CALL EVERY DAY asking if I wanted to become a customer of Dish Network. What a LOUSY company. Thank you for your time,

Kim
