I feel a responsibility to inform you of a problem I recently encountered with a company called SkyAuction.com. Aka Magical Holidays In May 2005 I used SkyAuction.com to reserve a 5-day cruise for August 20, 2005, on the Royal Caribbean Empress of the Seas. While on board, I heard passengers discussing cash credits and on-board credits given to them when Royal Caribbean reduced its price on the cruise. When I called Royal Caribbean to inquire about this I was told that I was given a $300 credit on my American Express card on July 29, 2005. I began an inquiry case with American Express about this. They explained to me that they can only dispute the non-received credit with the charging company (i.e., SkyAuction.com). I explained that the credit was issued directly from the cruise line, Royal Caribbean, and thus the dispute is with Royal Caribbean and not SkyAuction.com, the travel agency. They stated that they needed to inquire with the billing agency and a dispute case was started. This credit has not appeared on my statement as of September 7, 2005. I have since discovered that the refund was sent to SkyAuction.com (a.k.a., Magical Holidays) in July 2005. Upon receiving the credit, SkyAuction.com immediately contacted Royal Caribbean and told them not to inform me that a credit had been issued, and not to discuss the matter with me if I inquired about the credit. They have indicated that they have no intention of refunding the $300 owed to me. (SkyAution.com also claims that they upgraded my cabin, which I didn’t authorize; without the upgrade, the refund is even greater.) This is an extremely underhanded business practice. The $300 credit was issued from Royal Caribbean and earmarked for me – their customer. Other travel agencies (e.g., Travelocity.com, Expedia.com, and Vacationstogo.com) gave their customers the credit; SkyAuction.com, however, tried to hide the fact that a credit was issued to me and are now making it difficult for me to get money that is rightfully mine. I wanted to let you know about this, so that you may warn consumers to avoid using this company, SkyAuction.com.
