Berkline's leather recliner sofa and recliner loveseat

September 7, 2005

We compared Berkline leather furniture to others and determined that they were a decent mid-line furniture manufacturer. We spent many weeks driving as far as an hour away, checking out furniture. We finally decided on Berkline's leather recliner sofa and recliner loveseat. We ordered it through an online broker, who was wonderful to work with and extrmemly helpful. The problems started on delivery. We found a couple of small holes in the leather back and called our broker right away. We had the option of having it repaired, or refusing the furniture and starting over. Regretfully, we chose the former and accepted the furniture. The leather skirt in back is VERY high off the ground, there is quite a bit of unevenness around the cushions, backs, arms, etc. All in all, not horrible..or so we thought. We discovered staples in the arms that were in cardboard only and falling out. Our furniture was falling apart and it was only 3 weeks old! When Berkline customer service was called, they clearly didn't care, were rude and snotty. They were not willing to do anything about the problems, leaving it to our broker, who was very helpful. My husband and the repair guy ended up dismantling the entire thing. They had to rebuild it from the ground up. We were not happy to pay several thousand dollars for repaired furniture. Finally, a month later, the pillows arrived. Such shoddy workmanship. They are unevern, piping pulling out, thread caught out of the seam, pulled in so tight they look more like hourglass pillows than square and the filling is lumpy and uneven. We'll never buy or recommend Berkline again.

I am having problems with my Berkline and customer service is offering me 625.00 on a 3000.00 plus sofa and loveseat which is less than a year old, and has had problems within weeks of delivery. After talking about the UCC (implied warranty of fitness/merchadise)and contacting my attorney, a supervisory was going to call me back. That was this morning, its now 6:00 pm, and no phone call.
