POOR QUALITY - USED CARS / MURPHY MOTOR COMPANY - RALEIGH, NC

September 7, 2005

MURPHY MOTOR COMPANY, http://www.motormurphy.com I bough an used car for the past summer vacations with my family. I bought a "Conversion Van", instead I have a cargo van without AC, TV, I spent my vacations waiting for them and almost 3,000 dollars in repairing the car to can drive it, even so I need to do some repair valued in 600.00 dollars. I have been abused and victim of false promises. Sadly, I still believe in the power of the word and I think there is still some honest people.

Before buying this car, we visited different dealers and we saw different cars from private sellers. I been victim of lies to sell me the car. Would you buy a conversion van without AC or TV and a good mechanic?. Ridiculous, no?. This company uses Hispanic associates who are very skilled in selling poor quality cars. My native language is Spanish, so I went where I can talk and obtain all information I need regarding the vehicle. Instead I got abused and they made big fun of me.

In an small claim court the judge, with the president of the company present, in an interview of 15 minutes determined that there was not violation of the warranty agreement. I really don't know how to name this kind of abuse. This gentleman show himself very respectful in front of the judge, but he was very rude, though and very far of respectful with me. It was so frustrating for me to see how the justice, sometimes, can be so unfair.

A day after I take the car out their lot the AC was not working and the check engine light turned on. I call to speak with the president of the company, within the warranty period, but instead I was always contacted with the Spanish guys. These gentlemen can sign any paperwork referred to sell vehicles, but obviously they could not make any decision regarding reparation and warranty issues. They told me that I should not worry, but when the environment turned worm, they just disappeared from the scenario.

Talking with some Hispanic friends of mine, they told me that I went to the worst place in NC to buy my car, that they are like "the mouth of a wolf" for Hispanics. Checking this company record at the Better Business Bureau I find out that they are really dangerous for customers in special if they can not defend themselves. This is very dangerous, because they got big winds doing it to many Spanish speaking customer, that does not mean that they can do the same to everybody, just because we look calm, calm but not stupid.

I would like some hints, how I should proceed from now on,

I appreciate it so much.
