Lakeside Resort Table Rock Lake Missouri

September 6, 2005

Resort, Lakeside Resort, Coney Island,MO Table Rock Lake We arrived at the resort on August 10th, 2005 to stay in unit 6 which we have stayed in over the past 7 years. This year we are greeted to a horrendous cigarette smell and odor in the cabin when we checked in. The odor was so bad that it left a foul taste in your mouth and made breathing difficult at best. This from a cabin that was supposedly cleaned only hours before we checked in. When we went into the unit it was like walking into a smoke filled haze. Our day got worse from there. We launched our boat and had a major system failure that was not the fault of the resort but a factor in our making a decision to leave the smoke filled cabin early. We decided that after our boat became unusable and that the unit was uninhabitable with the smoke stench that we would leave early. The resort owner who is in the first year of ownership told us that no matter what we would be responsible for all nights booked and not just the nights stayed. At $128 a night it was ridiculous and not acceptable to us considering the cottage smelled so bad with smoke. We spent the next two days rigging our boat so we could get it on a trailer to tow home. August 12th arrives and the owner is like a buzzard circling around me while I packed the boat to leave and making sure he got all of his money for 7 days booked. The issue in our minds was that we did not stay 7 days and did not owe for 7 days for a few reasons. One is that no where in writing or verbally did we commit to paying for all nights booked irregardless if we stayed or not. The most important reason in our minds was that the unit was not inhabitable. We agree that we owe for nights stayed but not for all nights booked due to the shape of the cottage. It was a stay in hell. It smelled so bad all our clothes and luggage had to be washed when we arrived home or else our house would have reeked from the same odor. When the owner was confronted with the issue of the odor he indicated that they use a special cleaner to kill the odor of smoke. We told him it did not work and the cabin smelled like an ashtray but he would not recognize the fact that the cabin was un-inhabitable and charged us for 7 nights. We are now disputing the charges with our credit card company. Jim Click this link to e-mail the message author: Email User
