AT&T Worldnet

AT&T Worldnet AT&T Worldnet September 6, 2005 In early July of 2004 we made the decision to switch our long distance service to AT&T. We also at that time ordered DSL not realizing that our computer was not capable of supporting it. During this time our AT&T Worldnet internet service jumped from $25 per month (family plan) to .99 per hour. For one month our internet bill was $250.000!!! The customer service rep I spoke to seemed to think that the $250.00 was a very good deal pointing out several times to me that we actually received 20 free hours. The DSL package was returned. We were never informed that once we tried DSL we would be kicked out of our $25 monthly plan and charged .99 per hour. We assumed that we would still be on the family plan. We have a home based, very busy, business, plus at the time had one college student at home in addition to one high school student. Many hours are spent on the internet in our home and office and there is no way we would have agreed to be billed by the hour.
In September of 2004, after I realized that this would not be resolved, we switched our home line, business lines, 800 number and internet provider to a different company and have had absolutely no complaints. Our monthly bill falls far below the $250 AT&T hit us with for one month of internet service. With the money saved we were able to purchase a new computer and now have DSL.
Numerous hours, which are difficult for me to even come by, have been spent on hold, being shuffled from one AT&T rep to another and waiting at home for someone from the DSL AT&T department to call me (which has never happened). Earlier this year we were turned over to a collection agency. I wrote a letter disputing the Worldnet bill to the collection agency, which was to have been turned over to AT&T. Never heard another word until a month ago when a different collection agency sent me a letter threatening to report us to the credit bureaus.
I am totally fed up with no clue as to resolve this bogus bill !!!!!!!!!!!!! The only department I am generally able to get through to a AT&T is the sales department. On each occasion they have apologized for my inconvenient and try to talk me into coming back to AT&T. I say "NO WAY!!!!!!".
