Comcast digital cable t.v.

September 6, 2005

I'm a longtime Comcast subscriber in San Francisco (subscribed to Viacom starting in the 80's, which was bought out by AT&T, which was bought out by Comcast). On Friday, the digital menu feature ceased to operate. This renders the use of digital cable quite useless, since even when you're watching a show there is no description of it or name of the show--and of course you have no way to know what's on in the future; no way to schedule DVR recordings by program name; no way to review scheduled DVR recordings; no apparent way to access the On Demand feature. I can't remember the last time I used a newspaper's t.v. listing, and I'm not enjoying it now!

Comcast customer service reps run the gamut, with most clueless and some helpful. After several calls--I thought the problem was with my box--I finally reached someone who told me that it's a system-wide problem--doesn't that mean there are thousands of unhappy Comcast customers right now?

And where is the media coverage on this?

What is the problem? When will it be fixed? What caused the problem? And, of course, your customers should be credited during the time that the digital cable has been inoperable.

After nightmarish problems with the Comcast DVR hardware and service several months ago, this is pushing me over the edge--Direct-TV, here I come!
