Target vs Salvation Army

Target vs Salvation Army Target vs Salvation Army September 4, 2005 Target Corporation,
I have not stepped inside a Target store since they stopped allowing the Salvation Army to solicit at Christmas. The excuse that ""if you let the bell ringers solict you would have to let everyone" is untrue, evidenced by the fact that the Salvation Army has been the sole solicitor for the last few years. In light of the devastation from hurricane Katrina, I would like you to reconsider your decision. The Salvation Army was already set up to help in hurricane cleanup and so was there when the levee broke. They are in the unique first response position, a role other charities don't have. This surely will not be the last disaster this country faces, and the Salvation Army is experienced, cost effective and must stay strong..
I realise the Salvation Army is controversial. I realise that the groups you do not allow to solicit may be angry and boycott your stores, causing you to lose business. On the other hand, the Salvation Army didn't request large donations from you, only a few feet of space for 2 weeks. For many of us they are part of the Christmas tradition and make us feel good about giving (and shopping). I think Americans will have a new appreciation for disaster aid organisations and be tolerant of the bell ringers. I also think it's the right thing for you to do, because the people they have been taking care of are your customers and your employees. It's time to take a stand for what's ethical. You CAN draw the line and let the Salvation Army be the one exception to a no soliciting policy. The bell ringers would have earned about 9 million dollars at your store last Christmas, money sorely needed at the tsuname and the hurricane. If you supported that program again you would regain my respect and my business.

So please get out of your war wagons and thank them for giving to the Salvation Army.....
