October 5, 2005 - Consumer Follow-up Message:

After sending a letter to the Attorney General I finally heard from GE. They are addressing the problem and have offered to replace the stove.

September 4, 2005:

I purchased a GE Range form Aurels TV & Appliance's in Hamlin, Pa. (570) 689-9757 on August 8,2002. I paid $ 834. cash for it.

I have had a series of problems with this appliance over the past 3 years which were taken care of when the product was under warranty. After my warranty expired, I began to have more serious problems, such as fires in the range when I used the self cleaning mode, the inside glass cracking and most recently, the door exploded off the range when it was not even in use. I had been in close proximity to the stove and received flecks of glass on my arm and clothing. Though I was not seriously injured, It scared the heck out of me and everyone else in my household!

I feel I am getting the run around from GE's customer service. Aurel's gave me a list of people to call myself, but even service people tell me that a GE representative should look at the appliance and replace it. I am afraid to use my cook top and of course can not use the oven with no glass door. I have documented all that has gone wrong with this stove from small things like replacing discolored handles and gaskets to replacing the whole inside of the oven because it began to rust out. I would appreciate any action you would take to make their slogan GE cares, live up to their name. Aurel's told me that they were not getting much help from GE, but when I told them I had contacted the Attorney Generals office and reported the incident to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, they were more forthcoming, and gave me the name of Pete's Appliance of whom I called and they were awaiting a fax from GE. I have not heard form anyone since and that was over a week ago. I did receive a piece of glass for the door via Fed EX but no explanation as to who it came from) This is not satisfactory as I feel that there is a serious problem with this appliance and replacing parts is not addressing the problem. Someone could have been seriously injured had they been in front of that stove when the door blew off!!

Thank you for hearing my complaint and hopefully your voice with spur someone into action.

Sincerely,
