September 29, 2005

Dear Consumer Advocate, On September 19, 2005 I flew from Harligen, Texas to Emporia, Kansas. Prior to my flight I informed the reservationist that I required special assistance due to my temporary physical disability. The person at the counter in Harligen was left alone to handel a good size amount of passengers. He tried to be very helpful at first then kept over looking me when I tried to register my ticket. I know that I am in a wheel chair but I am not an invisible person. Next he asked a young attentant to wheel me to the gate and left me next to the waiting area. I asked if I would get assistance to be wheeled into the plane and he said yes. When the announcement came to board the flight for those who needed special assistant. I raised my hand but was ignored. It took a fellow passanger to assist me to the counter. The clerk once again ignored me completely and even though I required special assistance and more time to board the plane because I would need to be carried from my wheel chair to the airlines wheel chair to board the plane. Unfortunately, it gets

worse and I was injured in the process because the attendants had no clue how to stramp me to there wheel chair and they never had there wheel chair at the gate waiting for me. I was also repeatededly insulted by the airline attendants when they insisted "can't you walk into the plane". I even had to

confront the attendant from my flight from houston to emporia because she wanted to hurry up and walk into the plane because there was no wheel chair ready at hand to board me. She even complaint in front of me that I was delaying there flight. I feel compasion for the millions of handicap people who must have similar situations but do not speak up becasuse its so hard to admit to oneself how difficult and painful our lives are without having to add such ugly persons! I was so badly hurt by there lack of trainning in handling me that I was unable to get out of bed for 3 days. And I am scheduling a doctors appointment this friday to have x-rays to see if they further damage my fractured pelvis. Please warn other handicap persons to think twice about flying Continental. I am trying to request a full refund but have unsuccessful. Sincerely, Sandra Click this link to e-mail the message author: Email User
