Comcast / phone service

September 29, 2005

Well, Comcast told me that they could provide the same service for cheaper than I was getting it with AT&T. So I switched, only because I was able to keep my same phone number. And I specifically asked the girl if the package I was getting would include everything that I was currently getting with AT&T, i.e. caller ID, voice-mail, etc. - and she said "oh yes!!!"

Well then I get a call a few days before they came out to hook up my digital phone service, and the message says there will be a $40.00 "installation charge". I was like, well the girl on the phone didn't tell me that??? But I was like, whatever, ok.

So then I try to set up my voice-mail and I can't seem to make it work - the voice-automated thing tells me my mail-box # isn't valid. So I called Comcast and they said you don't have voice-mail, and I said yes I do, and they said No, your package doesn't include v-mail - that's an extra $4.95 a month. So I said forget it! I'm switching back to AT&T because ya'll lied to me! So then I immediately call AT&T who says they can give me service, but that I can't have that same phone # - WHAT????? So I told AT&T to forget it - I'll stick with crappy Comcast!!

So I call Comcast back, and get someone who I can barely understand, because her Indian accent is so thick I have to ask her to repeat everything twice!!! And now she tells me that voice-mail is $6.95 per month. I told her the girl that I talked to 10 minutes ago told me it was $4.95. And she says no, it's $6.95 and there will be a $9.95 charge to hook up my voice-mail!

OK, at that point, I thought I was about to have a heart-attach because my blood was literally boiling out of my eyes & ears!!! So I said, well, I guess I have no choice but to let you bend me over the barrell, but I want to talk to a supervisor to file a complaint!!! So she asks me what I"m going to file a complaint for, like she was about to get in trouble! And I gave her the whole story, and she put me on hold and transferred me to a very nice AMERICAN, English-speaking supervisor. I told her the whole story, and she apologized and said I felt like they didn't even care about anything that had happened to me.

She said she would not charge me the $9.95 set up fee and she would ALSO credit me $25.00. As for the original $40.00 charge to install the digital phone service, she said that goes toward my first bill.

While the credit helps a little bit, it doesn't change the fact that I was lied to throughout the whole process. I feel stuck because I can't go back to AT&T and get my original phone # back. How can it be legal for Comcast to do that? Why don't the other phone service providers do something about that?

So now I will probably be paying an extra $5.00 - $10.00 a month for phone service - I should have just stayed with AT&T. I will definitely not ever have anything good to say about COMCAST ever again. Their digital cable sucks too.
