BEWARE OF FREE CELL PHONE SCAM - InPhonics, WireFly, Cingular Wireless, Yahoo BEWARE OF FREE CELL PHONE SCAM - InPhonics, WireFly, Cingular Wireless, Yahoo September 28, 2005 BEWARE OF WIREFLY.COM (an InPhonic scheme). This company regularly posts advertisings on Yahoo for free phones. These ads are really a scam to charge consumers full retail price under the pretense of a 100% FREE mail-in rebate. I was duped into a 1-yr contract with AT&T Wireless (now Cingular), my credit card was billed for the full retail price of $200 and after meeting all the rebate requirements and fulfilling the 1 year contract with all my payments on time with the carrier (CINGULAR WIRELESS, their partners in crime) I HAVE YET TO SEE MY REBATE CHECK FOR $200. I have sent InPhonics, WireFly and Cingular countless letters. I have filed complaints with the FTC, the FCC and the BBB, TO NO AVAIL. These types of schemes should be outlawed, the perpetrators (sellers) should be locked up and put out of business and their accomplices (carriers like Cingular and advertisers such as Yahoo) should be handed stiff penalties. They lure you into their contract with the promise of a free phone that you might pay a heafty amount for in a retail store. Then they add a bunch of extra features without notifying you of them doing so. They say while you sign up do not contact ATT customer service for any reason as it will delay the activation process. On an upgrade that doesn't make sense. They added a bunch of features I didn't need in excess of over $100 per month in unneeded features. Cancel one of them and they will send you a bill for the full price of phone. Don't pay that you will be sent to collections credit ruined. They add all these features because authorized dealers get paid per feature. The higher the plan the more they get paid. The more features they add the more they get paid. It is why they state you cannot change your rate plan after purchase. I should have known better...I sent my phone back the same day I purchased it.
