Clark's Springer Sandals for Women Clark's Springer Sandals for Women September 1, 2005
I wrote Clark an email about 6 to 8 weeks ago about three pairs of Springer sandals I have had for about 8 years, unworn for all that time until my feet got better this year. When I tried to wear them, I found the soles have fully disintegrated...large 2" size chunks of the black composition material fell off as I walked.
I have many pairs of shoes, including other Clark models, which I have had fully as long, and not worn....which are now wearable and in good shape.
I find now I can wear the sandals.
So, I wrote Clark asking what I could do about this problem, like possible re-soling. They are not cheap shoes. The uppers are in fine condition.
I have had no response.
I am not in an area where expert shoe repair is accessible.
I will of course be grateful for your help. Can someone please post the customer service email and phone number for the best contact at Clarks? I thinking of trying their public relations for Clark. I too, had a pair of Clark/Springer sandals I loved so much I bought two pairs and stored the new pair until the old pair started looking a little worn. It took 10 years for the old pair (the sole on the worn pair is in nearly new condition, the leather upper is the only thing that looks old) to look worn enough for me to think about breaking out the second unworn pair out this summer. THEY DISINEGRATED AS I WALKED MY DOG DOWN THE STREET. I thought I stepped on a big waad of gum cause all of sudden my sole felt uneven. However, when I returned home, big chunks of the sole where missing. The entire sole was crumbling or cracked. THE LEATHER UPPER IS IN PERFECTLY NEW UNWORN CONDITION. SO, STRANGE!!! I planned to take the shoe to cobbler and see if he can put a new similar sole on it. The shoe repair shop I planned to go to specializes in Birkenstock style sandals so, he might actually be able to put a new, great quality sole on the sandals. It won't be an exact match, but hopefully it will be workable. I would suggest others look around the college campuses in your town and find a shoe repair place that has worked on similar sandals. Just a thought... I love my Clark-Springer sandals so much, I'm willing to give it a shot. I WORE THEM TO HOSPITAL FRIDAY NIGHT AND THEY LITERALLY FELL APART ALL THRU THE HALLWAYS AT HOSPITAL THE WHOLE BOTTOM SOLE FELL OFF PIECE BY PIECE I FINALLY HAD TO GET FOOTIES FROM A NURSE AS I WAS TRACKING ALL OVER THEHALLWAYS.. I WAS TOTALLY EMBARASSED... I thought I was the only one. I wrote CLARK and even sent them a picture of the problem, but NO RESPONSE. I thought CLARK was a reputable company - but now realize they are not "customer orientated" I will go to SAS or other companies. I LOVED my gold Springer sandals and sure would love a replacement. I tried to superglue and duct tape them together again because they were such wonderful sandals to walk in, but of course, this type of mending does not bring good results. The rubber seems to have a built-in lifetime of approx. 8 years. I certainly did not abuse mine on very rough ground and yet as with all the other people filing complaints it just happened and the sole practically disintegrated in chunks. I was looking for another pair to replace them but after having read this complaint site I might just go and check out other brands (which will be a long search, I'd rather have Clarks improve the product). Soles disintegrated at heels, while uppers are fine. The leather uppers are in perfect condition; the soles came apart in chunks. It's helpful to read about identical problems on this site and to learn that Clark's does not respond to email messages or letters about this problem. No reason to write them, and no reason to buy another pair of Springer Sandals. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Sunday, 21-Jun-09 17:38:31 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI have three pairs of Springers that have the soles come apart. It's awful, and they are not cheap sandals. Has anyone heard anything from Clark about this. I, too, will never buy another pair of their shoes unless they make it right. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Sunday, 28-Dec-08 16:43:11 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI too have had my springer sandals for about 5 years & only now started to wear them. But today the soles on both shoes split & the rubber on the heels separated & I am losing chunks as I walk. Appear to be unrepairable even though the leather uppers are in new condition. Have not had the problem with my other Clark sandals but it seems unfair that I should just have to throw my sandals away due to substandard products being used in the manufacture. Surely Clarks will want to protect their reputation. Who should I write to & will it do any good? I wore a pair the first warm day to work, and found they had cracked across the entire sole and pieces were shedding everywhere! I called Zappo's becuase that was the number Clark's listed for customer service, and they are going to replace them for me. I have a couple of other pair in different colors, and I expect the same thing will happen to them! Jeez Louise! The nubuck tops were in perfect condition, but the soles of the sandals disintegrated. I've been wearing Clarks for ages. I have had three pairs fall apart in the last year. Those of you who have had this problem know that nobody would believe you unless you had it happen - the chunks just fall off the soles. I also contacted Clarks and never heard a word back. What I find really weird is that I had older shoes (even ones I had left in the car for emergencies) that never had a problem. I don't think you can buy a more comfortable shoe, but I've mostly been buying Birkenstocks lately because they survive better. I am not sure who to write to. The heels just disintegrated---fell off in chunks. I didn't wear them for a while and they were expensive. My shoes were also not that old and the leather on sandal straps was in top condition! I finally threw them away but I am curious is you have heard from them. I, too, have the same complaint. The difference is, I have only had my sandals two years, at most. Black chunks are literally falling out of the soles as I walk. Have you had any reply from Clark? If so, please e-mail me so I will know how reputable the Clark Corp. is. This has sure changed my loyalty to them.
